The stout roots are the chief source of golden yellow colour and mainly use as colorant in textile industry. The chief colouring component of Rheum emodi is chrysophonic acid. Colouration of silk and wool with Rheum emodi is found to be effectively accomplished within a wide pH range of 4–8. Dye uptake, rate of dyeing and affinity of this colour are found to be higher for silk fibre than that for wool fibre.
